Q2: A Call To Battle!

Good morning, fellow artists! Welcome to another exciting edition of my weekly Hollywood blog. We are now in the second quarter of the year. Are you still in it to win it? I hope so! If not, this is a call to battle.

We started the year strong! Everything was shiny and new back in January, full of exciting possibilities and promises for the year ahead. We felt as if we could conquer anything! We made passionate proclamations about what we would achieve from every rooftop and social media platform. The road was wide open, and it was pedal to the metal. Q1 was our ally and friend. And now, Q2 can potentially be our deflector and antagonist. Things may not feel so shiny and new anymore. There might be a bit of a slump. We may be in the thick of the woods and not see an end in sight. We have nine more long months to go. Q2 may even tell us, “Take a break. Slow down. Better yet, give up.” Keep reading below 🙂

How do I keep the “Chasing” part of the blog alive when the initial burst of yearly energy potentially fades? It reminds me of when I recently blogged about conquering the “re-entry” struggle after an exciting trip. So let me channel my inner warrior to call for a battle against Q2—this is worth repeating for myself and others. Keep reading below 🙂

O ye, stick to and utilize your DOIN (Declaration Of Independence, aka business plan). That is your tangible roadmap. And if needed, audit your DOIN. See where the missing pieces are. This action gave me the additional fuel needed to achieve my primary goal for the year. O ye, be part of a career administration group where you hold each other accountable for your weekly goals. Two or more heads are better than one. O ye, be part of a community of like-minded artists who understand the marathon and sustained effort it takes to maintain the ups and downs of a career. Get thee to a great artistic school like Richard Lawson Studios 🙂 O ye, read your raison d’être to remember why you are on this particular journey. O ye, remember to celebrate your wins. Taking the time to celebrate will solidify your wins and help you get back on the road with renewed energy and purpose. O ye, it’s okay to step away when you get stumped on a project. Go for a walk and clear your mind. Take a shower and clear your mind. Eat something healthy and clear your mind. Then, return to your project and attack it. O ye, keep writing. O ye, nourish your relationship map. Keep it strong and healthy. Meaningful connections are the building blocks of your career. O ye, do things that scare you. And then repeat. O ye, stay updated with what’s happening in this ever-evolving industry (e.g., vertical content). Keep reading below 🙂

See you next week!
